Six textbook mistakes in computational physics

نویسندگان

چکیده

This article discusses several erroneous claims which appear in textbooks on numerical methods and computational physics. These are not typos or mistakes an individual author has made, but widespread misconceptions. In attempt to stop these issues from further propagating, we discuss them here, along with some background comments. each case, also provide a correction, is aimed at summarizing material that known experts frequently mishandled the introductory literature. To make corrections easy understand, bring up specific examples drawn elementary physics math. We take this opportunity pointers specialist literature for readers who wish delve into given topic more detail.

Six Common Mistakes in Conservation Priority Setting

A vast number of prioritization schemes have been developed to help conservation navigate tough decisions about the allocation of finite resources. However, the application of quantitative approaches to setting priorities in conservation frequently includes mistakes that can undermine their authors' intention to be more rigorous and scientific in the way priorities are established and resources...

Evaluating the SAMT English Textbook for BSc Students of Physics

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) are developing branches of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction in Iran. These branches have a marginal status in the tertiary education, and the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology’s high commission offers no clear guidance for selecting and developing basic academic instructional materials related...

Textbook physics from a cutting-edge material

Graphene has garnered significant attention for its unusual massless electronic dispersion and the ability to realize exotic electronic phenomena such as the integer [1, 2] and fractional [3, 4] quantum Hall effects in a new condensed matter system. However, graphene is also a conceptually simple two-dimensional electronic system, which makes it ideal as a testbed to demonstrate textbook conden...

Computational complexity in physics

More generally, computational complexity is about drawing qualitative distinctions between problems based on how hard it is to solve them. In a sense, computational complexity is descended from the concerns of the constructivists on hearing from Cantor that some infinities are bigger than others, e.g. that there are more subsets of the integers than their are integers. The constructivists denie...
